These motors house a DC spring-applied brake that engages immediately when power is removed, enabling instant stopping and secure load holding, essential for conveyors, hoists, lifts, and machine tools. Available in aluminium (M3AA frames 71–132, 0.12–7.5 kW) and cast-iron versions, the range caters to diverse environmental needs, from light indoor operations to heavy industrial settings. Designed for high-frequency cycling, rated IE2/IE3, outfitted with PTC thermal sensors, and compliant for inverter use, they meet rigorous industry standards.
Features
ABB’s brake motors are engineered for tough industrial usage and ease of integration. The DC spring-applied brake disc, available in 5–235 Nm torque variants, provides high holding force and quickly halts the load with minimal wear. The brake rectifier is integrated into the terminal box for effortless wiring and maintenance, and manual release levers allow for safe manual handling during service. With standard IP55 protection, sealed or ventilated housings, these motors suit indoor and semi-protected environments. Aluminium models deliver lighter weight and efficient operation, while cast-iron variants offer enhanced durability in harsh conditions.
